Dr. Shelley MacDougall is Professor of Finance at Acadia University, Wolfville, Canada. Her area of expertise is capital budgeting and strategic investment decisions in new technology. Her research principally involves the identification and evaluation of the intangible costs and benefits of information technology, intellectual capital and venture capital investments. She is also co-owner of EEP Engineered and Environmental Products, Inc.
Dr. MacDougall teaches senior students how to evaluate investments in IT and e-business technologies that afford the firm valuable but hard-to-quantify intangible strategic benefits. This is done with real option valuation techniques and practiced by developing a sophisticated Microsoft Excel model for capital investment evaluation. In Dr. MacDougall's introductory finance courses, students learn the fundamentals through building intricate models in Excel to use for financial analysis and management.
