Manning Alumni Impress at Chartered Accountant Graduation

The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nova Scotia (ICANS) held their graduation on February 11, 2012 at the World Trade and Convention Centre in Halifax. As in the past, Manning alumni had impressive results. Receiving their Chartered Accountant designation were: Jonathan Caldwell (Grant Thornton, Yarmouth); Josipa Coric (PricewaterhouseCoopers, Halifax); Angela Harris (PricewaterhouseCoopers, Halifax); Rebekah Melvin (KPMG, Halifax); Deepak Popat (Deloitte and Touche, Halifax); and Nicholas Westcott (Grant Thornton, Digby).

In addition, several Manning alumni received special honours. Rebekah Melvin delivered the valedictory address and received several awards, including the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants (CICA) Honour Roll Certificate, and the Gold Medal for the highest standing in Eastern Canada.

Also during the evening, Bruce Phinney (’81), received the ICANS Fellow Chartered Accountant (FCA) designation, the highest honour that can be bestowed upon a member of the CA profession. The program for the evening contained these words, “For his success in business endeavours, his interest in community service, and for his being an inspiration and mentor to other CAs, Bruce is very deserving of the FCA designation.”
