Bio

Mike is a CPA CA passionate about the place where accounting and social impact meet. He is a Lecturer in Accounting at Acadia University’s Manning School of Business and a Director of Common Good Solutions CIC. He believes that companies embracing a triple bottom line approach will outperform competitors over the long term. He’s worked extensively across public (Province of Nova Scotia - Department of Health & Wellness, Executive Council Office, and Department of Finance), private (Deloitte and multiple startups, including a bacon-focused food kiosk) and third sector organizations (Hope Blooms, Bicycle Nova Scotia, Partners For Care). His areas of expertise include social finance, social entrepreneurship and tri-sector approaches to tackling complex problems.

He is currently working toward a PhD in Sociology and Public Policy in the area of social enterprise policy development under the supervision of Dr. Michael Roy at Glasgow Caledonian University in Glasgow, Scotland. His research interests include integrated reporting, the intersection of accounting and social policy, and social enterprise.

Outside of the classroom, he is an avid cyclist (in 2017, he cycled across Canada), runner (he has completed 15+ marathons and 2 ultra marathons) and swimmer (he is an Ironman finisher).
